SUMNER, WASHINGTON

My workday began & ended in the state of Washington.

We did driver swap at an old truckstop, in Ellensburg, that seemed to have recently took on the Flying J branding. It was one of the few places remaining that require a driver to use a single hose, stringing it awkwardly to the opposite tank to fuel up.

The roadways were dry, but snow on the side of the Interstate got very deep as we ascended Snoqualmie Pass. All of the snow had dissipated by the time I reached the Seattle metroplex.

My assignment to pick up a relayed trailer was cancelled after I arrived at Schneider's intermodal yard, in Sumner. Oh, joy. We got another assignment in its stead. The problem with the new assignment was that it required us to wait for nearly a full day, so I deadheaded over to the nearby truckstop to pass the time with relative comfort & necessary facilities. They charge $26 for a truck to park for a day. While my co-driver slept, I mostly lingered in the lobby of a high-end motel chain. The truckstop didn't have a drivers' lounge. Nobody asked me whether I had a room or not, although I did feel suspicious stares occasionally.
