ILLINOIS TO NEBRASKA

Lexington, Nebraska
Monday night.
My workday concluded at the normal time & with the normal routine - just before midnight & occupying a fuel island. As soon as I stop, my co-driver exits the truck & gets his necessary activities completed inside the truckstop, then usually returns just as I'm ready to go inside, myself. The truck is virtually never unattended.

This morning, my co-driver delivered our load of paper products to the Kimberly-Clark warehouse, near Chicago.
Several hours later, he drove both miles to our shipper's warehouse. They loaded our trailer, then told us to pull away from the dock, close our trailer doors & come inside for our paperwork. After he did so, they told him to put the trailer back into the dock to have one more pallet added. He did. They didn't add just one additional pallet of freight, they loaded on ten more. Good grief.

I took over the truck duties at a Pilot Travel Center, in Minooka, Illinois. We did driver swap a little later than usual.

The rest of my day was very uneventful- as it usually is on I-80. I passed by the town of Wilton, Iowa - where a second cousin lives. She was still at work, so paying a visit wasn't a possibility this trip. I took short breaks every couple of hours at Iowa's well-maintained rest areas. They clearly post how far it is to the next rest area - allowing me to adequately time when to plug in my 12V oven & when to pull into a parking spot to enjoy my dinner.

Both of my boys spent time on the phone with me today, easily recounting what they did in school. Forest has been learning that mixing red paint with yellow paint - makes orange paint.
Hunter has been learning about various groups of animals, like mammals & reptiles.

Hurricane Isaac has yet to do its worst. Our company is partnering with Home Depot, Walmart & others to be ready to deliver relief supplies to the Gulf Coast as quickly as possible - after the hurricane has blown through.

I've also had an eye on the "earthquake storm" in Southern California. It wouldn't surprise me if a significant earthquake struck a portion of the United States soon. Many people seem to be thinking the same thing. I wonder if recovering from tow disasters at the same time would pump much-needed life into our economy, or if it would damage things even further. The Obama administration probably views these events as golden opportunities to demonstrate effective leadership & give him a better shot at a second term.
