SOME TIME IN SACRAMENTO

We have been enjoying another restart. After delivering our load of cell phones, we deadheaded 17 miles to the 49er Travel Plaza in Sacramento. I was delighted to see that it had partially adopted the Pilot Travel Center brand. This meant that I could scan in my paperwork via Transflo & yet enjoy the local individuality.

My co-driver checked into the motel room upstairs, while I made my home in the truck. It's his turn to get reimbursed for this motel-stay & we don't ever share rooms.

I didn't spend yesterday afternoon staring out the windshield. My mom told me to enjoy myself, so that's exactly what I did. (not that I didn't already have intentions to do so already). A Sikh came to pick me up in his taxicab, and took me to downtown Sacramento. I roamed around downtown, taking in the sights and enjoying the freedom from the constraints of the truck. I eventually meandered to the movie theater to watch The Avengers. Friends & family had recommended it, but I wasn't as impressed as they were. Afterward, I went to the food court to have some Pacific food. While I waited in line, the owner of the Greek place made eye contact with me and waved me over. It had been a while since I'd had a good gyro, so I was persuaded. That was the best food I had put into my mouth all week. Very worth the defection from my original line.

The sun was getting low in the sky, and I wanted to be back at the truckstop before it was too dark. I had intentions of walking the 4 miles, but the directions on my phone were a little confusing. As everyone knows, pedestrians aren't allowed on the freeway. My phone's pedestrian directions just weren't jiving with reality. In my moment of frustration, a taxicab happened by. Okay, fine. LOL. I'll just take the easy way back. The driver concurred with me - that my pedestrian directions were bogus.

Back at the truck, I enjoyed reviewing the time lapse dash-cam footage. Nothing significant actually happened while I was away, except for a truck that gotten mighty close to my hood as he was maneuvering into his parking spot. I watched a couple of episodes of CSI, and went to bed earlier than usual.

This morning, I didn't sleep in as late as I expected that I would. Breakfast was composed of my usual items: an orange, a pouch of sardines, lots of water & coffee, and dry honey-nut Cheerios. My co-driver returned to the truck just as I was leaving to get a shower. He says his overnight accommodations were clean, plain & inexpensive. That's all he needs to be satisfied, it seems. Nothing wrong with that.
