South Jacksonville, Illinois
We just performed driver swap at a 24 hour gas station that wasn't intended for big trucks, like ours. I will keep the curtains open until we are back on I–72 & up to freeway speed.
We left Nixa at 3:30 this afternoon. After I had driven about 10 miles, I realized that I had forgotten my medical card at home. I had recently changed wallets, and had forgotten to remove my medical card from the secret compartment. This past Thanksgiving, I got a hefty ticket for not being in possession of my medical card. It's a federal requirement for all CDL holders. Having learned that harsh lesson, I decided to take action, even though I was on a tight schedule. So, I made a detour through Springfield to the occupational clinic where I always have my DOT physicals performed every two years. They graciously made a copy of my medical card. I was so relieved.
200 miles later, I picked up a load of rubber tubing from a Goodyear factory in northern Missouri. They would have had a trailer pre-loaded for me, had the previous driver not backed his trailer so crookedly into the door. It was so bad that they couldn't place the dock plate into the gap. They asked me to straighten that trailer. I gladly did so.
My delay was very minimal. We will be delivering this load to Pittsburgh tomorrow.
