Waiting For the Snow (in Ohio)
Sometimes we have to stop and wait a while to accurately meet our scheduling appointments. I parked the truck at 4pm yesterday, 47 miles short of our consignee. Although they have a big yard, they were insistent that we drop off our loaded trailer between midnight and 6am. We won't argue with the ones who pay our bills. So, I passed the time with a good book in the lobby of a well-known motel chain, as my co-driver obliviously slept in the truck. The motel was located right across the street from our favorite travel plaza. I ate a decent meal at the neighboring family restaurant. My partner got up at midnight, and I assumed command of the bunk, while he found ways to pass another couple of hours in the truck stop. We didn't take off right at midnight because our next shipping appointment was scheduled for the early afternoon, and we didn't want to get into the neighborhood too early and contend with the lingering lack of truck parking and the morning rush. All this time we are waiting, a snow-filled front is marching our way. It might meet us as we are leaving the state. It's weather - so, who knows....
