Shawnee, Oklahoma
My cousin, Jason, and his 3 kids just visited me at my dad's apartment. The boys and I will be visiting my aunt Marti before we leave town. We are wrapping up a 24 hour visit/ brother drop-off in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
We had originally intended to bring both my dad and Mark to their Potawatomi apartment yesterday, but it turned out that my dad had to come back sooner. His heart episodes had become extreme enough to warrant an overnight admission into an Oklahoma City hospital. So, Mark got to ride in the front seat for the 285 mile trip from Springfield, Missouri. My kids' frequent restroom breaks added an hour onto the trip, but that was alright. Vacation implies permission to take as much time as desired.
Although my dad's health issues limit his activities, he still made 2 impressive meals during our visit. I did what I could to help. For dinner last night, he made chicken tacos. For breakfast, he went all out and made eggs, sausage, cinnamon rolls, toast, and grapefruit halves.
The boys had an enjoyable time at my dad's apartment. Before turning in for the night, my dad sat with his drowsy grandsons while playing the Cars 2 movie on the DVD player. We slept in Mark's room; Hunter slept on the upper bunk; Forest slept in the recliner; and I slept on an air bed.
My grandmother lives in the same senior citizen's Potawatomi apartment complex as my dad. She has lived there for more than 10 years. We spent time with her yesterday evening. I've been joking with my cousins, saying that I'm her favorite grandchild. (Which may be almost so, since I frequently send her postcards).
