New Year in Nixa, Missouri

The boys and I had a pleasant, uneventful trip back to the Ozarks this afternoon. Since my parents' house was nearly along our route to Nixa, we paid my mom a 5 minute visit. It was dark and I was tired, but there were two chores I wanted to accomplish before completing our trip: filling the fuel tank and getting a car wash. I paid $2.92/ gallon for the gasoline, and $ 8.00 for the car wash.
Arriving at my Nixa home, my grandfather and wife were doing exactly what I had imagined they would be: watching television and reading. My boys were anxious to get their popcicles. Forest had prepared root beer cicles before we left on our trip to Oklahoma. I shuffled a deck of cards and played Solitaire while the local news jabbered away on the TV. Although the boys hadn't seen their mother in more than a day, both of them were still focused and affectionate toward me. My time with them is rapidly drawing to a close, and they must surely know it.
Everyone is asleep, except for me. There are 8 more minutes until we turn the calendar to 2012.
