We spent 44 hours in the “off-duty” status, but we kept busy. Thursday night, we emptied as much as possible from our truck into the storage unit.
We departed Nixa & Springfield yesterday evening. My original plan was to make it to Oklahoma City before parking it for the night, but I got really sleepy and we stopped about an hour short of where we intended to. I take safety very seriously, so we bend plans & parking ordinances when necessary. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones who were sleepy; the tollway travel plaza in Stroud Oklahoma was exceeding capacity with trucks. We had to park next to a sign that read “no parking anytime“.
Today, we stopped every couple of hours for the puppies. Injuring New Mexico, at the welcome center, our poor girls discovered the cursed weeds that produce cockleburrs. The thorny balls caused them to limp & our holding them down to get them removed caused them to cry.
Two hours from our desired night time destination, Stephanie ordered a reserved parking space at the Flying J in Albuquerque New Mexico. The price was $15.97. When we arrived, all of the reserved spaces were full. Apparently someone had pulled into one of them, without any regard to the fact that we had paid to be there. Management had security go out and confront the rude driver. The security officer reported that someone was indeed inside of the truck, but was refusing to respond. And after repeated warnings, the truckstop staff has ordered a tow truck to physically remove the rig. We are waiting for the show to begin soon. They gave us a refund. We happened to find a free space to park in several rows back. Another driver was speeding through the parking lot trying to claim it before we could back into it all the way. This place fills up to absurd levels at night & exhausted drivers start doing dumb things.
