It was less than two miles to our shipper from where we spent the night. When we arrived, I noticed my log book screen said on duty. I suppose if I would have driven another .25 miles it would have automatically logged me for driving.
I checked into the office a few minutes before our appointment. The shipping clerk told me to slide my trailer axels to the back and back into dock 14. Most drivers have to clean out their trailers, but I had cleaned mine out with my leaf blower the previous evening. This was another load of food grade packaging. I don't think it will be filled with food grade products, as this load was going to Proctor and Gamble.
I chose to drive a little slower than normal with this 17,000 lb load. My fuel mileage was amazing! I don't get up to 8.8 mpg very often.
Since, we weren't allowed to deliver this load yesterday, we spent the night nearby at the Schneider OC in Edwardsville, Illinois. While there we managed to get a lot of chores done: Laundry, showers, and dishes.
It was lightly raining when we dropped off our loaded trailer in downtown Saint Louis. We had to drive to a different lot to pick up our empty trailer. Everything went extremely well.
We are on our way home now. We are deadheading about 230 miles to Nixa. Back when I was a company driver, they rarely allowed me to deadhead this far to go home. It is nice to be an owner operator.
