Long Deadheads

"Deadheading" means: driving distances with an empty trailer.
From Valliant Oklahoma, we took an empty trailer nearly 3 hours west to the town of Ardmore, to pick up our load of empty wooden pallets. From there, we drove to Emporia Kansas, spending the night in Oklahoma City along the way.
After delivering to Emporia Kansas, we took an empty trailer a ridiculous distance up to Saint Joseph Missouri. The load paid well, so we were well-justified to drive that many unproductive miles.
The load we picked up in St. Joseph delivered to three places in Kansas today. We spent last night at one of the customers' yards.
As there wasn't much freight coming out of the Wichita Kansas area, we chose to select a load that picked up in Kansas City Missouri. We had to take an empty trailer nearly 250 miles for that one.
We have that load picked up now. Our DOT hours have expired here in Boonville Missouri.
