We have to do these things every year. They give us about a six week window to work with. The training group at most OCs are usually very busy. It's unlikely to get scheduled if you don't give them advance notice by about three or more days. Mine was scheduled way out, on the 29th, in Edwardsville Illinois. I always dislike having to plan my loads around things happening at specific places and at specific times. It can really cut into the revenue.
While I was in Dallas, I gave myself a few hours between loads. Taking a wild chance, I want to the OC and spoke to the members of the training group. Sometimes they have a cancellation or an opening for some other reason. They were able to slip me in exactly when I got there! The trainers reviewed my logbooks, looking for violations. They didn't find any, and were extremely impressed. I took a relaxed check ride with one of the instructors. It went well. I was very happy to have this event go so well and to have it done for another year.
