49 minutes remained on my 70-hour clock after I completed my workday. It felt so good to have that load completed legally. The load from Arkansas to Maryland was a profitable one. A couple of days ago, two hours after selecting the mentioned load, my calculations showed that I would be violating an Hours of Service law. Not wanting to call in to ask to have the assignment removed, I strategized courses of action I could take to conserve & maximize the time I would have available. And, yes, I drove much faster than I usually do. It hurt to see my fuel efficiency suffer, but my leadfoot served the greater good.
It took a while to decide upon my next load. My wife predicted that the Northeast would suck me in once I got here. She was right. Being Thanksgiving week, freight rates are incredibly high. She can forgive my absence this coming weekend because of nice deposits going into our bank account.
