REVERTING TO DAYTIME

I was as exhausted as it gets when I parked to sleep yesterday morning. After four hours of unconscious bliss, I awoke & wasn't able to go back to sleep. Wretched insomnia. This is the curse of night-shift workers. Around noon, I got a message from Schneider. They apologetically had to remove me from a sweet pre-assignment because customer service had posted incorrect appointment times; they had to scramble to do a "load rescue". All was not lost, however; they offered me an identical load, but with different appointment times. I replied affirmatively & they took care of the rest. There would be a few extra hours than I would have preferred, but the overall revenue was far better than my other options. Freight rates are in a slump lately. Also, I would have to revert back to daytime driving. It was good to return to sleeping when it felt natural to do so. But I will miss the emptiness of the big roads.
My million-mile banquet is just a few days away. Regina is anxious to fly into Charlotte to join me for the event. If all goes right, I'll be arriving in the "Queen City", with a load, just a couple of hours before her plane touches down. My recap hours will be just about squashed, so the timing of everything seems to be optimal.
Spring colors abound here at the North Carolina/Virginia line. I'm on a mandatory 30-minute break at the northbound welcome center.
