28 HOURS DETENTION = $300

Buffalo New York
*Wednesday into Thursday, delivering Friday morning.*
A particular load caught my eye because it paid okay, had some extra time on it to allow a repair on my truck, and it got me back into the central time zone. Upon arrival at the shipper, the clerk informed me that my trailer had not been loaded yet. I kept an understanding attitude, turning around to wait in my truck, just 20 steps from the shipping office. I had lots of food & water with me. No worries. They told me that someone would come out to get me once my load was ready, but I inquired about it every few hours, anyway. My wait became extraordinarily tedious. The trip plan I had drawn up became obsolete; en route truck maintenance would have to be delayed yet again. Eventually, I fell asleep, still in my daytime clothes, with my curtains still open, continuing to be expectant of a knock on my door. Morning arrived, then afternoon. I had been there 24 hours! Well after sundown, I got the desired visit. It was 19:00 when I actually hit the road. I was going to have to drive hard all night long to make it to my destination on time. My logbook shows several nap breaks. I arrived in Janesville Wisconsin at 7:30 in the morning, with only eight minutes left on my DOT clock. They allowed me to sleep on their property after the trailer was empty. I slept soundly. My representative at Schneider is doing his very best to get the company to pick up my tolls tab for this trip, since it was the only way to properly service our customer. Rescheduling delivery would've been extraordinarily bad. I not only took the Ohio and Indiana tollways, I took the very expensive Chicago Skyway. That was the only way I could make it from Buffalo New York to Janesville Wisconsin in one work shift.
