CLOSE ENOUGH TO DALLAS

Terrell Texas
It was 86° yesterday afternoon. I chose to stop at the big truck stop chain featuring the two prominent letters- one red, one blue. With intentions of going on a walk, I needed to make sure I had a shower credit handy. To make sure that was so, I pumped in the required 50-gallons of fuel before settling into a parking space. I didn't go for a walk immediately afterward; I spent the following hour contemplating the load board & tapping the calculator keys with conviction. Three specific loads were what it would take to get me home by Sunday evening. It'll be about 3 weeks since I left. Regina & the kids are missing me.
My walk consisted of 3 miles of relatively flat country roads, in contrast to the prior day's hilly residential asphalt. I always walk on the left to safely see & respond to oncoming traffic. A jogger passed me. That was different. I wondered if he was a fellow truck driver or not. Sparse traffic allowed me to feel comfortable enough to take off my shirt for part of the walking experience. My really-white chest needs to soak in a few rays.
I had to wait 20 minutes for a shower to become available, when I got back to the truckstop. Nobody seemed to grimace at my sweaty ambiance as they walked by me. After getting all clean, I indulged in a medicre meal in the restaurant.
