BISCOE, AR - BRINKLEY, AR
I-40 has been under major construction for a full year now. I see plenty of workers & equipment out on this particular stretch of Interstate, but I can't figure out why progress is taking so long. A ten-mile stretch of alternate roadway is confined to a walled-off single lane. A concrete canal. Whenever a motorist breaks down inside this zone, everyone gets to wait behind him/her. I've seen backups stretch 8 miles due to someone having to change a flat tire.
Yesterday, just beyond the "concrete canal", a big truck caught fire. Police ineptly diverted traffic onto US-70. Stop & go. Stop & go. Progress was painfully slow. A fellow Schneider truck broke down on the two-lane road, adding to the extensive delay. Some of our fellow motorists lost their manners & temper during the ordeal. The detour lasted a full 3 hours.
