EZ-PASS FAIL

Thursday started with my co-driver expressing frustration to the toll booth attendant over having to pay $36 to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, in Maryland. Our EZ-Pass had failed to function. That little blue box mounted in our windshield keeps us from having to pull out cash at every toll stop. In some cases, we don't even have to stop, as express lanes allow us to maintain freeway speeds. The system seemed to have failed for many other drivers, also, judging by the congestion at the Maryland toll plaza. We called our supervisor to tell him about the problem. He, in turn, called our internal fleet department to get them to investigate. We both felt some anxiety as we crossed into Delaware & New Jersey. Paying tolls all day would be a very expensive proposition. At last, it was confirmed that our blue box was working fine. The pay-boards at the following plazas read, "toll paid...". What a relief.
