Jacksonville, Florida
It will be my turn to drive in about 35 minutes. My co-driver is skillfully merging onto I-95 from the Jacksonville beltway. We are hauling a FedEx load to Orlando.
Part of my get-up-from-bed routine is brushing my teeth. It was particularly necessary this morning, since I had sardines for breakfast. So, dental hygiene in an in-motion big rig requires an empty bottle to spit in; a bottle of clean water for oral rinsing; and, of course, a toothbrush & tooth powder. (I prefer tooth powder over toothpaste.). Since there isn't much better to do as the dotted lines fly by, I take all the time I need to thoroughly brush my teeth. Brush, rinse, spit. Repeat. Repeat again, and again. Good dental hygiene is something I inherited from my dad. He used to wander around the house as he brushed his teeth. He probably still does. I was always impressed by how well he could speak with a toothbrush & sudsy toothpaste in his mouth. In the Navy, he was nicknamed "Toothbrush Daddy." I think he should write a memoir about his time in the Navy.
