DALLAS, TEXAS
You may have instances where you don't realize how valuable something is until you lose it. Here is my relatively trivial experience: The shiny part of my hood mirror fell off just a few miles after leaving home, the other day. It has felt so disconcerting to be without it, while changing lanes and negotiating tight corners.
I made my first attempt to replace it early this afternoon, in West Memphis . They didn't have the part in stock. Bummer.
475 miles later, I stopped by the Dallas OC. They don't have the part on stock either, BUT...they do have some totaled trucks in the rear of the yard. Remember last month's tornado??
I found the Freightliner Cascadia & it's attached trailer that became famous on TV for it's horrific flight. I dragged the remaining portion of the hood from underneath the mangled trailer & unbolted the mirror. It's the left mirror; I need the right one. So, I'm currently in line for "Express" repairs. Hopefully the mechanics will be able to make a successful swap for me. To be continued...
