We just finished delivering a load of cellphones to the Sprint warehouse.
An escort driver followed me from the shipper, yesterday, for the first 200 miles, from Fort Worth.
Every time I stopped the truck, I was required to call our security surveillance contractor - to tell then where I was, why I was stopping, and for how long. I also had to call whenever I was about to resume driving. This turned out to be more convenient for me than sending a message to my supervisors over the Qualcomm.
I made my first stop at the Love's travel plaza in Little Rock, Arkansas. I pulled into a fuel island, right behind another Schneider trailer. After I slid my cards & punched in the necessary data, I commenced to fuel. To my complete surprise, one of my friends walked up to me and said "hello!" I had parked right behind Ronald Lukkien! He and I communicate several times a week, via texts and on Facebook. He's got a sweet dedicated route, running between Smyrna, Tennessee and Laredo, Texas.
I slept well last night. My co-driver didn't encounter any difficulties that I was aware of. He had to wake me up, in Louisville, to ask me for my CDL. The Sprint guard needed both of our licenses. I tried to go back to sleep, but couldn't. One of the other Schneider teams, who left Fort Worth before we did, arrived a few minutes after us. They were apparently in a good mood & talked loudly. My co-driver's phone rang repeatedly while he was out of the truck. It seemed that the whole world wanted me to get up. Alright. That's fine.
So, we are empty now. My co-driver deadheaded us to the nearby Pilot Travel Center, and is looking for a parking spot. We don't have a load assignment yet. Our boss says he is struggling to find one that points us toward home. We were originally supposed to be home today.
