One of my friends was fired from his driving job about 6 weeks ago, after his truck jackknifed in Wyoming. He was changing lanes, at 19 mph, on an icy highway, to make room for a stopped tow truck. Damage was negligible, and nobody got hurt. With very little deliberation, his supervisor decided to fire him. He was told to remove as many of his belongings as he could, and take a bus back home, to Cleveland. He & his co-driver parted ways at a truckstop in Laramie.
It was my opinion that his dismissal was hasty & unfair, so I encouraged Kevin to appeal the decision. In spite of the bitterness he felt, he managed to write a competent letter to our company, protesting his firing & giving satisfactory reasons why they should rehire him.
Kevin's letter of appeal was met with fairness & consideration. He was rehired, went for a drug test and a driving test, & was assigned to a truck yesterday. This afternoon he is back on the job, picking up a load from a hideous-looking dock. Ha ha.
