I started my day in Dallas. The maintenance crew took another shot at fixing our Qualcomm unit. They seem to have succeeded.
Thunderstorms were a concern today. I paid close attention to radar and weather reports, as I deadheaded to Lawton, Oklahoma. The wind was strong, occasionally. My empty trailer wanted to wiggle all over the road.
A storm had just passed, when I arrived at the Goodyear drop lot. The ground was muddy; yet the sky had become clear. A worker cleaned outy empty trailer with a leaf blower, then directed me to park it in the back lot.
My loaded trailer bulged from the tires that were loaded inside. I had to do two "pump downs" to adjust the brakes properly. Before automatic slack adjusters, a driver would have had to crawl underneath the trailer with socket wrenches to properly adjust the brakes.
My dad called me as I was distancing myself from Lawton. He was concerned that I might be in the midst of the rough weather being reported on the Weather Channel. My parents had been watching my traveling on their phones, via the GLYMPSES I had been sending them.
Throughout the remainder of the evening, just out of luck, I kept myself between the 2 thunderstorms that were progressing East.
I fueled and finished up my work day at the Pilot Travel Center in Joplin, Missouri. My co-driver took over, and has been keeping us nicely paced behind the same thunderstorm I was following, with another one nipping at our heels. Our Qualcomm system is doing alright, but my partner is still keeping a paper logbook, just in case.
