Random Drug Test

I was barely awake and out of bed when I got the call, notifying me that I had been selected for a random drug screening. My co-driver had to go also. We were at our company's Carlisle, Pennsylvania operating center when we got the call. They planned it this way. My co-driver checked out the company car (a Chevy Impala) while I got the rest of myself together. We had to be at the occupational clinic within an hour of the call, or we would face termination. We had no trouble getting there. The clinic was about 3 miles away, and easy to find.
After filling out the basic paperwork, we didn't have to wait long to be called into the back. My drug test didn't involve a pee cup this time; instead, the nurse took several hair samples from my head. These samples retain a person's chemical history for about a month back.
My last random drug screen was...well, it must have been over a year ago. I support the practice of random drug tests among those of us who operate heavy machinery for a living. We made a choice to make a living where such intrusions are necessary. For the rest of a free society, government has no business determining what a person does or does not put into their body.
Here is an unflattering picture of me in the haircut chair. Enjoy. Ha ha.
