Slush & Flammable Placards

It rained, sleeted, and snowed all of last night and into the afternoon. We did business in Indiana then traveled through Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas. There was a significant amount of snow remaining on the ground in southern Illinois and Eastern Missouri. They had quite a snowfall Monday night.
My partner and I switched roles in Texarkana, Arkansas tonight. He is now "captain". I will take over again around noon. By then, we should be in Laredo. Each of us get an extra $50 for hauling this current load. It is a hazardous materials load; our trailer bears 4 red placards reading "Flammable".
Today, my dad asked me what we have to do differently while hauling a hazardous materials load. There are several things: We have to stop at all railroad crossings; we have to fuel one tank at a time, with our hand remaining on the nozzle; we have to check tire pressure at each stop; we have to take special notice of our padlock and seal to make sure they haven't been tampered with; and we have to make additional notations in our logbooks at each status change. I'm sure this brings back memories to my friends who share a history in the trucking business.
