It is almost Midnight, here in the Central time zone. We have been on a shipper's property for about 8 hours now. As you can imagine, such long delays don't make me happy. At least we are earning detention pay. I forgot what the hourly rate is for that.
My day started near Louisville, Kentucky. My co-driver was 30 miles from the consignee when I opened the bunk curtains. He was required to drive nonstop for the last 250 miles. I had the same requirement the previous night, when I departed the Samsung warehouse (our shipper). We were hauling about $1Million worth of Tablets on just 6 pallets.
It was my turn to drive after the trailer was emptied. The Pilot Travel Center was my first stop. Both of us needed showers. It felt good to be clean and shaven again. Various circumstances had caused us to go 3 days without showers. This is just part of the truckers' life.
I read on my Uncle Galen's blog that Uncle David made it to Chiapas Mexico safely.
