Fiery Day in California

We left Lake Havasu City Arizona early this morning. The deadhead trip to Bakersfield went smoothly and quickly. We picked up a load of potato chips from Frito-Lay. This was our second time there.
The northbound trip went smoothly, until lots of cars started slowing down quickly. There was smoke over the hill. As we get closer, we saw fire engines and several fire fighters battling a grass blaze. We saw several trees also becoming consumed by the fire.
It looked like they were throwing everything they had at the burning strip between the Interstate and the fruit tree grove. I'm sure the acre or two was extinguished shortly after we drove by.
With 18 minutes remaining on my DOT clock, we parked our rig at the popular truckstop in Dunnigan California, just north of Sacramento. We took a 2 mile walk, then ate a surprisingly healthy dinner at Wendy's.
A little sweaty from the walk, we decided to redeem a shower credit and restore some freshness to our bodies. With a hint of soap still on us, we heard a fire alarm blaring. Both of us jumped out of the shower and hastily dried off.  Stephanie didn't do as much drying as I did; she got her clothes on with utmost haste. Emerging from the shower room, we didn't find anything worthy of the alarm. Neither did we smell smoke. I guess that is a good thing.
We covered about 607 miles today. Tomorrow, we intend to be equally ambitious. I'm hoping we can get several miles into Washington state.
