The night we picked up this load, we managed to get farther than anticipated. We spent the night in Toms Brook Virginia, at a Pilot Travel Plaza that used to be a Wilco Hess truck stop. Pilot seems to be taking over everything lately.
On Christmas Day, we drove 633 miles to Hurricane Mills Tennessee. Stopping to park beyond 8 o'clock in the evening is usually a guaranteed struggle for a space. But that night, there was lots and lots of room. We decided to have dinner at Arby's. They were the only ones open for miles and miles around. Throngs of other travelers packed the restaurant.
Struggling with colds, we hit the snooze button on my alarm several more times than usual. Home base messaged us twice during the morning to see if we would be delivering our load on time. I suppose the trailer tracking system had a significant lag.
We rolled into Wilmer Texas 90 minutes earlier than anticipated. Stephanie selected our next load about an hour before we got there. And gave the box team time to figure out what to do about an empty trailer. Our customer was freshly out of empty trailers, but that was fine since our next load is already waiting for us at the nearby Schneider operating center in Dallas. We got to bobtail out.
I played the "fuel game" to the max. My diesel tank & my DEF tanks are nearly empty. When I pump the necessary liquids in the morning, the cost won't be deducted from this Friday's settlement (it'll be counted against the next one's).
So, here we are, and the OC. We are doing a wide variety of things this evening. We are doing laundry; we got a meal; we vacuumed out the truck; and we just got a shower. It's really nice to get many of these things done for free.
