Knowing that we were going to be picking up our load from a grocery distribution warehouse, I made sure to sweep out my trailer with utmost diligence. It was nice to have a brand-new broom for the task, but having a leaf blower would have made it much easier. My wind generating device is suffering from battery problems, and I am too cheap to buy a new one. At least I get a little extra exercise by scooting the broom around.
Loading went much faster than anticipated. Our next stop was the nearest truck plaza with certified scales. Despite my doubts, the weight distribution was perfectly legal.
Driving south through Illinois, Stephanie analyzed the load board and strategized various plans for our upcoming 34 hours off-duty. We will probably hit our reviled 70 hour limit an hour before getting home.
It's quite a juggling act to legally get ourselves home. Even after delivering this load, there are still time & equipment laws that we must abide by. My ICA runs through the checklist of everything to consider every time I informed him that I intend to drive while off duty.
