ANGRY DRIVER
On highway 75, near Anna Texas, traffic had to merge into the left lane to get around the aftermath of an accident. A flatbed truck and car had crunched. Despite my turn signal, cars refused to let me over. They kept passing me, even as I started to crowd into the left lane. It was a ridiculous number of four-wheelers who had no interest in accommodating my pretty rig. Traffic moved along at about 10 mph. As a gap seemed to form, I steered my tractor sharply into the the left lane; my trailer naturally lagged. A driver of a Cadillac SUV was incensed by my insertion. He accelerated hard, then dramatically screeched to a stop mere inches from my trailer's belly light. I was concerned by his conniption behind the wheel. In an instant, he jumped out of his car, running toward me with an object that might have been a gun. Luckily, the stop-and-go traffic started moving before he could do something regrettable to me. I remained calm, quiet and observant; I didn't want to do anything to escalate his misbehavior. As expected, the enraged SUV driver found a way to pass me on the right. I slowed to a crawl, allowing him to get in front of me. He came to an ugly halt in front of me, yet partially straddling the right lane. Although traffic was moving ahead, he remained stopped to punctuate his displeasure with me & to provoke me into doing unprofessional things. I didn't bite. We sat there for about 20 seconds. Only one or two cars passed us on the right. I figure they had been observing his wretched behavior also & recognized the danger. With firefighters and police nearby, the crazed driver of the Cadillac SUV decided to discontinue his vendetta against me. We resumed our trip without further tension.
