When I arrived in Owensboro Kentucky to deliver my load, my computer gave me several warnings about my hours of service. I assumed it was just the 30 minute break requirement for the prior 8 hours I had on duty. Wrong assumption! It was my 14 hour clock that was expiring! There were lots of signs reminding drivers of the two hour limit on the property. The nearest truckstop was at least 15 miles away. The prospect of committing a violation really bothered me. I had to improvise quickly! Looking on satellite maps, I saw a nearby farm that might accommodate me for the night. So I eased on over there and asked permission from the landowner. It was such a relief to receive permission. They had never had a truck driver come over to ask permission to stay the night. Their only encounters with truckers had been lost drivers and property damage from turnarounds. My workday ended nicely.
