SOMEONE ELSE'S SCALE PRINTOUT

Yesterday afternoon, I picked up a significant load from a customer in Greenfield, Missouri. I routed myself to the first available truckstop with a scale. They asked for my truck and trailer information right there at the speaker. That's a little different, but nice. When I went inside, they confirmed that they were printing a ticket for tractor 43796. I got my $10 scale slip with relative ease & got back onto the road. Everything appeared to be alright.
About an hour later, I took another glance at my scale printout, while I was driving. Something looked strange about the total weight and the distribution thereof over my various axles. I took a closer look at my paper, the truck ID and trailer ID didn't even resemble my own! I had someone else's scale  ticket! I might be overweight!
Being aware of a DOT scale 30 miles ahead, I promptly pulled over and called the truckstop. The lady who answered the phone was very apologetic and made the situation right by reading my weights over the phone. I wrote them down with a sharpie marker. My trailer axles were a little heavier than I would like, but they were at least legal. I will take a closer look at my scale paper next time. Whew!
