ROLLING AGAIN

SUNDAY
Hesperia, California - Jamestown, New Mexico

We got moving Sunday morning. My co-driver picked up our load near Los Angeles & drove us over the mountain, to Hesperia, where I took over. I slept very well, recovering from all the excitement of the previous evening. Evan's wedding was the best one ever! I'm still smiling from all the fun.

Freeway message signs on I-15 warned drivers of lengthy delays on I-40, near Ludlow. According to the Caltrans District 8 tweets, a big truck had struck a bridge barrier before careening down an embankment, spilling the contents of his/her fuel tank onto the roadway. The Interstate had been shut down for over 9 hours. It must have been quite a mess. I considered altering my route, but chose to take my chances with my original course. Perhaps I would be able to divert to Old Route 66 to bypass the resulting traffic-jam. By the time I got there, the roadway had been reopened to traffic. Everyone was moving at normal speeds. I took a few pictures of the scene of the accident, as I drove by. The tractor had already been towed away, but the trailer remained nearby, having its freight trans-loaded to a different trailer. I wonder what happened to the driver.

I was passed by over 10 race car-hauling trucks this evening. The NASCAR rigs were as fancy as they get. Being in Arizona, they reminded me of the animated CARS movie, that my boys were raised on. Hunter has probably watched that film over 100 times. It was that very stretch of freeway that Lightning McQueen got vibrated out of his rig & began his harrowing adventure in Radiator Springs, which was actually based upon the town of Seligman.

A bright meteorite lit the sky for upwards of 10 seconds, a few hours ago. It was beautiful. I think I remember reading an article about there being an elevated risk of ground-strikes this week, like they had in Russia last month. Hopefully the space clods pick somewhere less populated to land this time.

I wrapped up my workday just before 2am, Monday. The Pilot Travel Center near Gallup, NM is always a busy place. We stop there often.
