My partner and I took a layover/ restart in West Memphis over the weekend. My friend, Kevin, had the same idea. Time and location were aligning well. He called me periodically to tell me how close he was getting. It just figured that he called me as soon as I stepped into the shower. I took the motel shuttle back to the OC to meet up with my friend.
We took the company car & enjoyed some non-trucking surroundings for about an hour. He needed to do some necessary shopping at Walmart. Except for returning a Redbox movie, I didn't need anything. It was just good to hang out with a friend that I could be myself with. Before returning to the OC, we got some Chinese food. It tasted so good, especially since he paid for the both of us. We visited for a while, before I returned to the relaxation of my motel room.
The next morning, before my co-driver & I started another work-week, I took Kevin to breakfast at Huddle House. It was my turn to pay. Since I had to wait for my relay trailer to arrive, Kevin talked me into another run to Walmart. The 36-year-old Brit still doesn't have a smart phone. He browsed, but didn't commit to anything that day. He does Facebook pretty well with his LG Rumor, for now.
It was good to see my friend again.
