Several days ago, we picked up a load from Columbus, Ohio. They spent 4 hours loading my trailer & refused to allow me to use their restroom during the process. As I signed out, I heard them congratulating themselves on how they fit all the freight onto one trailer, instead of two. I didn't think much of the comment at the time.
Our assignment was adjusted. We would be delivering to 5 different customers in the Seattle area. We didn't grumble since the overall mileage was good.
My third customer discovered that their freight was behind my fourth customer's awkwardly stacked freight & they weren't going to attempt to unload and reload it. So, I left to deliver to my fourth customer, then, I returned to my third customer. They were not happy with how their freight was stacked & secured either. A pallet had fallen, scattering the cargo. We took pictures, but thankfully, nothing turned out to be damaged.
On to my fifth & final stop. I arrived five minutes before our appointment time. I rang the bell and knocked on the receiving door. Nobody answered or acknowledged me. There were two vehicles on the premises. I called the phone number provided to me through my instructions. No answer. Through the small window on the door, I saw someone walking around, obviously ignoring me. After about seven minutes of trying to get their attention, I finally called my supervisors. They attempted to call them as well. With my supervisor on the phone, I blew the truck horn, knocked on the side doors & yelled. Still, no response. The only option left, was to return in the morning. Yay. A waste of 12 hours of my time. Ugh. As soon as I maneuvered the truck away from the building, one of the employees jumped into his pickup truck and sped away. I figured that they would probably be telling their boss that I didn't show up. But, I have dash-cam photo/video of them being there. Go ahead: tell your lies, then look at this.
I spent the remaining portion of the evening in downtown Woodlinville, Washington. My cousin wasn't available to come visit me on such short notice. Perfectly understandable. So, I enjoyed eating out, taking in a movie, and doing a little grocery shopping.
Morning came, and John drove us back to the scene of the "crime". I woke up, and ventured out to find the supervisor to respectfully* complain about last night's incident. The boss wasn't there – just a few employees. They weren't able to provide any satisfaction to my complaint. They did, however, shower me with complaints about how their freight was loaded. Heavy pallets were stacked on fragile freight. Other boxes were crushed or ripped open. The folks in Columbus sure angered our customers by their corner cutting. This load was finally completed before noon on Tuesday. Then we got a load to California.
