CROWDED SUNDAY

TEXARKANA, ARKANSAS
It's still Sunday night for me. My co-driver and I just swapped out at the Flying J. I had their last slice of pepperoni pizza.

As usual, this morning, I woke up to surprises. My co-driver had delivered our load in San Antonio, and had deadheaded to Laredo. I slept so soundly that I didn't have the faintest clue about what he was doing & what our new assignment was. A relayed trailer was waiting for us. That was awesome, since we often have to spend the night & wait for our trailer to cross the border the following morning. We are hauling a load of auto parts to Michigan. I have friends who are hauling the same kind of load. They are spending the night at the La Quinta in Indianapolis tonight, since they haven't been able to schedule an earlier delivery appointment. We are in the same situation, having way too much time on this load than we need. My M.O. is to get there with the usual haste, allowing for "Murphy time" along the way, and asking for tighter delivery windows several times a day.

I-35 was busy this afternoon, and plagued with dumbasses. We had 4 "brake checks" during the trip toward Dallas. Some of these accidents were fairly serious. I was observant & quick-witted enough to take an exit to the frontage road for one of these incidents. By doing this, I saved myself about 30 minutes of misery in the creepy-crawling traffic.

Earlier in the trip, I noticed several small grass fires springing up, caused by carelessly tossed cigarettes. Isn't it odd that a fire can be so difficult to start when you want one & so difficult to prevent when you don't?

The coming week is promising to be eventful, in world events. The recent elections in France & Greece are already causing something of a stir in world markets. I have mixed opinions about repealing the austerity measures, so I will save those for another time.

My dad is returning to Springfield tomorrow. He is intending to drive to Tulsa; meet Grandpa Bailey & Regina; and have Grandpa Bailey drive his minivan the rest of the way to Springfield, with Regina following. He will be home for 2 weeks, before having to return to Shawnee.

Please pardon any mistakes I have made here. We are driving on a bumpy stretch of I-30 right now. I'm struggling just to keep a grip on my phone.
