FAMILY FUN in FONTANA

Some of my recently acquainted family am friends were boggled by my sudden secrecy about my load from the East Coast. After I delivered our load of cigarettes, I was able to reveal where I had been, what we were hauling, and the strict security procedures we have to abide by. These loads pay my bills nicely, so I'm always happy to comply with my customers' requirements.
We arrived into a rainy Fontana Sunday evening. My cousin, A, and her husband, M, picked me up from the truck terminal and took me to In-M-Out Burger. Although I had exchanged many comments and jests with M, over the last few years, this was the first time I had actually met him in person. We had an enjoyable time together that evening.
The following morning, Monday, I got an assignment that allowed me some extra time to linger in the area. My uncles, G & R, picked me up. We had breakfast at a 50's-style diner in Rancho Cucamonga. Meal conversations are always fun with then. Uncle R violently resisted my attempt to pay for the meal. Ha ha. He startled the waitress to near panic as he snatched the check from her hand as she was passing it to me.
We dropped off Uncle R at his house, and I spent the following several hours with my Uncle G. At their house, I got to visit with Aunt S. My cousin, E, was sound asleep in the corner bedroom. He had a hard-playing weekend and had worked the overnight shift. We stopped by his sister's house to pick up the two precious little girls. I go to have a short visit with my cousin, C, while there. 2-year old, B warmed up to me immediately. She excitedly have me a tour of her bedroom, and asked me to help put her shoes on. Baby B-L wasn't so sure about me, though. Cousin C entrusted her to my care, as we strapped the little ones into my aunt & uncle's recently acquired minivan. It had been a couple of years since I had strapped in a baby carrier. I hadn't forgotten, though. The baby faces the rear of the car. Her older sister, B, chatted and sang to/with me as we journeyed back to their grandparents' house. Occasionally she called me "Uncle J". I took this as a compliment, and I posted it on Facebook. The real J was amused.
At the house, we Skyped with my dad, then Uncle D, who lives in southern Mexico.
The time came for me to return to the company truck yard to begin my work day. We are under another load that I will have to keep under my hat for a while.
It had been a month since I had been in the presence of anyone I know or an related to. This short layover was a meaningful one to me.
It is 1pm, Tuesday. I am getting out of the bunk later than usual, since I drive so late last night (3:30am).
