Last night Hunter and his Cub Scout "den" went for tour of the Nixa Police station. He called me afterward to tell me all about it, with impressive descriptive skills.
They toured the Evidence room, in which they kept many drug-concealing items they had confiscated from various lockers at the high school. Hunter told me about the compartmented soda bottles, the fake cell phone, the hairbrush, and the highlighter.
He also told me about the bullet-proof glass that was on display in the office. A bank had remodeled their building recently, and decided to give some of their old bullet-proof windows to the Nixa police to have fun with. They experimented with different types and calibres of ammunition to see how well the glass resisted, and how the bullets disintegrate. Some of the bullets were still lodged in the glass. Hunter found this to be fascinating.
Regina filled in a few details for me. She got to go on the tour as well, as she helped supervise the boys. She told me about the classroom, which had a high-tech virtual touch-screen; the Armory - which was not as impressive as she had expected; and the juvenile lock-up room.
Hunter is really enjoying his Cub Scout experience, and participates well.
