As busy as I am, one would think it would be difficult to make any friends while on the road. But, occasionally, we do have enough down time to have conversations with fellow drivers at our terminals, truck stops, and at our customers. Sometimes, there is someone who resonates will us well enough to trade phone numbers with, and to "friend" on Facebook.
Months and years often pass before we encounter any particular friend again, in person. Lately, I have had more chance-encounters with my friends than usual.
Edward Scretchen (Peanut) and I met 4 weeks ago, at the Charlotte operatinig center. He is just as ecxited about trucking as I am. He was one of my first Facebook friends. We communicate pretty often.
Alex R. and I have seen each other quite a bit lately, travelling in opposite directions, passing him in the same direction, and, in person at the Chicago operating center.
Peter & Brenda caught up with me recently, after I broadcasted my location via a forwarded self-locating service text message to them.
Ron L. got to meet up twice in recent weeks near Laredo, Texas. We call each other about twice a week to share our various adventures with each other. Any conversation always includes: "where are you?" So, whenever we realize we are in the vicinity of each other, we find a way to meet.
Robert M. wandered into the Laredo break room, while I was there. He brought his wife along as a passenger. This was the second time in recent months that we have simply stumbled into each other. The previous time was at a Louisiana rest area, just hours after being in the Dallas yard together. Today, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, I was walking through the break room, at the operating center, and, who did I see sitting at a table?: Eric B.! He and I became friends last year, while we were stuck at the West Memphis operating center during a bad ice storm.
In the pictures below are: Eric; Peter&Brenda; Alex; and "Peanut"
